The VCU School of Medicine is in the process of switching to a centralized purchasing model for computers. This meant that we had to come up with good ways of managing purchasing and storage of large numbers of computers and monitors. We discovered that if we selected a good USB-C monitor that also had DisplayPort connections, we could use the same monitor for Windows and Mac desktops and laptops. We also found an effective way to use them in place of docking stations saving money and desktop space.
This session will also cover some of the issues we ran into while centralizing purchasing, including from a research perspective, and how we ended up resolving them. We will conclude with a discussion into our strategy to better support and secure Macs and laptops in our environment and whether or not that is even a good idea!
