Successfully managing the relationships between IT and university stakeholders is a key indicator of the strategic value IT adds to the institution. Business Relationship Management (BRM) is well established in the private sector. Its importance is growing higher education and other public segments is growing as the blending of IT and business practices, and digital transformation continue. Even without a formalized BRM role within IT, BRM-associated responsibilities can be performed and add strategic value to IT and careers. Progression towards a BRM role may come from various areas within IT: business analysts, project managers, training, instructional designers, service desk, etc. This presentation will provide examples of BRM work products and an approach to determining and measuring IT value. It will engage participants by having them share examples of performing BRM-type activities or describing situations that could have benefitted from having a BRM role, and how IT value is determined, captured and measured in their IT organization.
